Single So Am I!
Being
a writer for TS, people always ask me: “Ahmed,
you’re handsome, witty, successful, talented,
rhetorically-blessed, and you smell REALLY good,
like new cars. How do you do it? How does one
become so bundled with goodness and still come
out on top when writing?” I’d be lying if I told
you there was a way to be more like me, but
fortunately for you I’ve decided to write a
makeshift guide to help make your dream become
an attainable one. And I’ve gotten pretty sick
of people asking me that question. Seriously,
cut it out. There’s no way you can be me. Ever.
In order to get a better idea of how our readers
express themselves, I read through a bunch of
delightful submissions that were sent to our
office e-mail. Below you’ll learn the tricks of
the trade as well as a handful of ingenious
techniques to sharpen your writing skills. Read
on and enjoy, my loving readers!
1. Read, read, read! It would be foolish to try
and write something right off the bat when you
haven’t had any reading done beforehand, which
is why I’ve put this at the beginning of the
guide. Reading comprehension benefits you as a
writer in a couple of ways: - You build up on
grammar and vocabulary - You develop your own
unique writing style by leeching off of others’
Everyone, including myself, has had at least one
or two authors sway his or her writing style.
When you read stuff, especially the kind written
by people you like, your brain subconsciously
picks up tiny fragments of it and subtly blends
it with your thoughts as they are written down.
Seeing as most people out there choose to be
a-literate (able to read, but choose not to if
it’s too heavy), let me pleasantly remind you
that reading isn’t only limited to books. In my
entire life, I have only sat down and willingly
read two books that I found to be genuinely
interesting. Every other book I’ve read was a
required reading for academic work. Then how did
I get so good with writing, you ask? Simple!
Just read everything from books to Internet
articles, newspapers, and colorful magazines
with snazzy covers like this one? Now that I’ve
mentioned it, this magazine is pretty much a
very good example! But don’t read blogs. No
really, stay away from them. Nobody likes blogs
or bloggers.
