DANCE & EXERCISE IN WATER

Water aerobics is a type of resistance training & workout using body movements & dancing steps you would normally do on land, but performed in the water. Water aerobics exercise can be done in waist to chest deep water. It’s the kind of sport that you can do while on vacation, in the swimming pool, or even in shallow calm sea water. It’s like normal aerobics but with a slight difference in technique. It’s also known as Aqua Fit or Aqua Aerobics”. Anyone, of any age, can play this sport & have a lot of fun, plus many health benefits.

The Workout
Like any other sport, water aerobic has its own techniques; workouts combine a variety of techniques from the usual aerobics, including walking or running backward & forward, jumping jacks, mimicking cross-country skiing, along with various arm movements. The workout may also incorporate equipment such as flotation belts, specialized water aerobics shoes, flotation devices, & ankle & wrist weights. The exercises can be done with music in water tempo, or with only the instructor’s cueing.

The Benefits
In addition to the standard benefits of any exercise, the use of water provides support for your body; it’s excellent for athletes who need to avoid jarring associated with land exercises like convalescents or seniors & reduces the risk of joint injury. Water exercise can improve flexibility without causing great pressure to your muscles. The mitigation of gravity by flotation places less stress on the joints when stretching, & can allow a greater range of motion. Exercise in water can also prevent overheating through continuous cooling of the body. Most classes last for 45-55 minutes. Finally, because of the safety of water aerobic, routines are less likely to result in falls & bumps that land exercises can cause.

The Challenges
First, you need a pool. Second you’ll need to spend a little extra cash to enroll in a water aerobics class. Although aquatic exercise greatly reduces the risk of injury, not as many calories are burned as would be in some other activities. If possible, try & combine water aerobics exercises with other exercises.Write With TS.
